We don’t know a ton about the afterlife. We know that because of Christ we will be resurrected, live again, and can be forgiven of our sins. But the details of how that all works? Not much.
Jesus gives us just a brief peak into what judgement will be like:
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
I picture us standing before God with a giant list of all the “idle words” we said and having to explain why we said them.
Now I don’t know if that’s ACTUALLY what it’s like, but it helps me have a visual.
To me, idle words are things I say out of laziness. Let’s be real, we all know we shouldn’t say mean things, gossip, or lie. But sometimes we do. Why? We get lazy. It’s just easier to do those things than to not do them.
So I encourage you to be just 1% less lackzidaical with your word choice:
As you do so, you’ll have more of God’s power in your life. And you need all of that you can get.
