When my 19-month-old daughter Peneople asked for ice cream, I’d be such a sucker. She say, “Ice?”—her way of asking, “May I have an ice cream cone please?” She’d even give the sign language action for “please”, or even more convincing, say “peeeeese”. She looked like she had the biggest, bluest eyes with a smile on her face
“Yes”
She got what she wanted.
Christ, in his sermon on the mount talked about this very scenario. Okay, maybe not this scenario, but something similar. This is one of the few places in the New Testament it says “your children” so as new dads, we should pay close attention.
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Christ is imploring us to ask Heavenly Father. And as we ask, we shall find.
What are some things you can ask God for today?
